I discovered music at the age of six when I began violin lessons in Finland. Later, I studied music and singing at the University of Arts and Applied Sciences in Freiburg, Germany, specializing in pedagogy.
In spring 2020, I received a grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation to support my studies in London. I completed my MA at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in 2021 with distinction and was offered a creative coaching opportunity by composer and songwriter Julian Marshall (ARCM, FHEA).
My solo project, Emmi Maaria, is inspired by Finnish literature and my family history. Musically, it blends elements of classical, pop, and folk, with a strong female narrative. I compose, produce, and arrange all of my songs. In March 2023, my single Why Would We Girls Be Sad was featured on BBC6 Music Introducing. I am currently working on my debut album.
